    Angela Hawse

    Angela is one of the most experienced women guides in the U.S. with 24 years of leading adventures in the vertical realm. She is one of only 7 women IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guides licensed in the U.S. She completed her training and certification through the American Mountain Guides Association and is certified as a Rock Guide, Alpine Guide and Ski Mountaineering Guide. Angela is well versed in all disciplines of climbing and skiing and has let over 20 high altitude expeditions, including 5 on Denali. She has climbed and guided throughout the U.S., Alaska, Canada, the Andes, Karakoram and Himalayas. She is passionate about teaching and sharing her knowledge of technical skills, culture and geography. Angela has a long history of making good things happen through service work she often combines with her mountain endeavors. In 1998, she was deputy leader of the successful First Disabled Ascent of Mt. Everest. Her efforts on the expedition included organizing a major clean-up on high on the mountain and facilitating a semester long course for college students in the Khumbu Valley. A year later, she led an expedition to Aconcagua, whic removed over 1000 kg of garbage from above 19,000 feet. In 2003, she led a successful all-women's expedition to Ama Dablam, 22,545', with two other Chicks with Picks Guides. The group of nine women, raised $23,000 for the dZi Foundation and climbed the highly technical southwest ridge without Sherpa support. Their fundraising efforts helped start a safe house for young girls in Sikkim. Angela has trained women to be guides in Nepal and worked in the past to protect the Mountain Porter there with international agencies. She trains guides in the U.S. through the American Mountain Guides Association's training and certification program and served on the AMGA's Board of Directors for six years. In 2001, she earned a Master's Degree in International Mountain Conservation for her work. Angela is also a Motivational Speaker, Technical Rigger and Consultant. Her home is outside of Ouray in Ridgway, Colorado
